We visit Cayman Island at least once a year for vacation and stay at different locations.  This time we stayed at Plantana Condo on 7 mile beach.

Accommodations

We stayed in Unit 40 which was a 1 bedroom, 2 bathroom beach view.

Unit 40 is on the 3rd floor with no elevators so if you can’t carry the luggage up and down 3 flights you will have a problem.  Also keep in mind when your on the beach whenever you have to go to the bathroom you have to walk up 3 flights.

The bed was very creaky and not very comfortable. The tv in the bedroom is basically a small computer monitor you can barely hear or see anything.  The tv in the living room is small and didn’t really work.

The unit is stocked with dishes and pots.  You will need to buy condiments if you want to cook.  There is a washer and dryer in the unit.  The air conditioner worked well and kept the condo nice and cool.

Each morning I would get up early and sit out on the large screened in balcony which faces the beach and drink a cup of coffee.  Sometimes people would smoke on the balcony and on the beach while you’re trying to relax which was very annoying.

Beach/pool

The beach is amazingingly peaceful and quiet. The ocean is always calm and clear.  The grounds was kept very clean. There was a lot of families with children here but it was never rowdy or noisy. You do not have to go out and put towels on chairs there’s always plenty of chairs and umbrellas.  The pool area is very nice with cushioned chairs.

You can walk up and down 7 mile beach and feel safe.  We walked and checked out all the other condos and hotels. There are no vendors or no one walking up and down the beach selling things or disturbing you while you’re sunbathing.

Shopping

There is a  supermarket store where you can get stuff in bulk in walking distance but we had to catch a cab back because we had cases of water and stuff. There is also a Fosters supermarket close by.  If you come in on the weekend just remember stores are closed on Sundays so go to the supermarket before Sunday.

Dining

One day we invited our friends who lives on the island over and we put steaks on the grill on.  We had to purchase the charcoal but the condo has a grill and utensils for you to use.  Again if you are on a higher floor it can be a challenge lugging everything up and down the stairs.

There are so many wonderful restaurants on the island to choose from.  We ate out at Eats Cafe which is like a dinner and have awesome breakfast and great snacks and food. We also ate at Deckers Bar and Grill on Sat night for all you can eat lobster night. One night we ate at Guy Harvey’s Island Grill  which was in Georgetown. We also met some of our other dive buddies for dinner at Rackems  They have the best sunset views, drinks and bar food.  You can catch the bus for 2.50 US one way.

On mother’s day I had the most amazing 2 hr spa treatment at Habiscus Spa which is next door in the Westin hotel

The weather was perfect the sun was shining we could not have asked for a better week to visit.

Room Tip: Choose a unit on lower level if stairs is a problem
