Marriott Rewards is a free program offered by Marriott Brand Hotels that rewards people who stay in their hotels often with a wide range of exclusive privileges including points toward everything from car rentals to free hotel stays.

If you’d like, you can earn even more points by signing up for the Marriott Rewards Chase credit card through Chase bank.

I quickly became a Gold Elite member of the free Marriott Rewards program.   My goal is to one day become a Platinum Elite lifetime member.  I also earn extra points toward vacations with my Marriott Rewards credit card.  Let me show you how I personally rack up the points so that you can jumpstart your way to free vacations:

How to apply for the Marriott Rewards program

Applying for the Marriott Rewards is easy and completely free. You can apply on the Marriott website. After you’re enrolled you’ll receive a card that’s provided to members of the Marriott Rewards program. It’s not a credit card. It’s a rewards card.  When you receive it you’ll be assigned a number that you can use when booking hotel rooms.  When you join using a refer-a-friend member’s link you and that member will be rewarded points that will be equal to a free stay.  See details below to join through my refer-a-friend link.

After getting your member rewards number go to the Marriott  website and register your card. You can update your profile online.  Don’t forget to add your birthday so that you don’t miss out on your free birthday gift each year.

How to earn Reward points quickly

When you join through another member’s refer-a-friend link you’ll earn 2000 points after your first stay and the member will earn points as well.  For example, if you book a one night stay, you’ll receive 2000 points in your account.  If you go on vacation for five days you will earn 10,000 points.  That’s basically enough points for another free stay.

Each time you stay at a Marriott Brand Hotel your earned points are automatically added to your rewards account.   This is how I always have a free room waiting for me to choose from.   It’s free to join and since you’re going on vacation anyway, why not stay at one of the 5,700 properties that Marriott has in over 110 countries around the world.

From upscale to budget friendly, Marriott has a brand for everyone.  Below are a list of just a few of Marriott Brands to choose from and the best part is, you can use your free points to stay at all of them:

Luxury hotels:

The Ritz- Carlton, Edition, JW Marriott, Le Meridien Hotels & Resorts, Renaissance

Midscale hotels:

Now, let me show you how I personally rack up the points using my Marriott Chase Rewards credit card:

How to apply for the Marriott Chase Rewards Card

I quickly earned a free week’s stay, automatically became an Elite member and continue to earn points for free rooms all because I applied for the Marriott Chase Rewards credit card.

When you apply for the card and spend $3000 in the first three months,  you’ll automatically get 80,000 points, which equals a week’s stay.   Your Marriott Rewards number will be linked to your Marriott Chase credit card so that when you spend on your credit card the points will automatically transfer to your Rewards card for your free stays.  When you apply for the credit card with a refer-a-friend member’s link you and the member will receive points.  See below to apply through my refer-a-friend link.

The inside scoop

The points I earn when I use my Marriott Rewards credit card is one of the reasons I’m able to travel every few months.   When I first received my card, I paid all my every day bills, my daughter’s tuition and shopping on my new Marriott Chase credit card for two months.  When I received the bill I went online and paid off the bill.  The following month, I received 80,000 points in my Rewards account.  Then I went to the Marriott website and booked a seven night free stay trip to Florida.  We were able to book seven nights because they had a point saver’s option that allowed us to use fewer points for more days.

I currently use my card everywhere visa is accepted, including paying my bills, fuel and grocery shopping.  Each month I earn points to use for free rooms.  I also earn one Elite status point for every $3000 I spend each month which helps me keep my Gold status. Why not turn your bills into a free vacation!  I Do.

Benefits of Marriott Chase Rewards credit card include:

  • A free night’s stay every year on your credit card anniversary date
  • 5x’s points when you use your card at any Marriott Brand Hotel
  • 2x’s points on airline tickets when booked directly with airline
  • 1x’s points for all other purchases
  • 15 credits toward your next Elite status after your credit card anniversary date
  • One Elite credit for every 3,000 points you spend each month
  • One elite credit on your birthday other ways to earn points

Other ways to earn points

  1. Host an event

I helped plan my daughter’s wedding at a Marriott hotel and blocked off rooms at a discounted rate for the guests.  I earned points for each guest that booked through our link and I used the free week a month later at the Marriott Grand Cayman Islands Beach Resort.  You can also split the points with another Marriott rewards member when planning events. If you plan a family reunion or work function or any other event, use your rewards number and you are on your way to a free vacation.  If you’re not using your Rewards card you are missing out on a 100% free vacation.

  1. Social Media

Follow Marriott rewards on social media to earn points.

  1. Buy points

You can purchase up to 50,000 points in a calendar year.

  1. Participate in Marriott promotions

Promotions are sent to your rewards account throughout the year. They’re great opportunities to earn free points. You can even earn Megabonus points.
